Brooklyn emcee Trav brings some great, raw, real lyrics to life with this nice cut “Hoodwinked 2012″. I feel that Trav’s words are heart felt and sincere, just what I’m looking for at hiphopruckus.
Born Travis Darmel Bennett in 1990, Trav, aka Boss Carrot, was raised in Brooklyn by gangsters and a teenage mother. Like many of the youth who grew up living the hard knock life, Trav idolized the ghetto fabulous lifestyle of fancy cars, fly clothes, pretty women, and dirty money. However, as he began to learn from the mistakes of his uncles and his father, that fantasy quickly faded away. Trav has had a hard time accepting the male figures in his life and had a rocky relationship with his mother, forcing him to stand on his own two feet at a young age. Despite this, he was motivated enough to find both legitimate and illegitimate work in order to help him and his family maintain. One listen to Trav’s music makes all of this abundantly clear; he puts his life into his music because he believes it will set him free, as it did his idols – Biggie, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. Other influences of his include Tupac, Raekwon, Nas, and Eminem. Trav has spent the past nine years meticulously honing his craft alongside his cousins DC and Melle K-lo-K. Having recently decided to focus on his solo career, he has found his signature sound and is currently working on his first full-length solo release entitled “Vegetables.” Follow @Bosscarrot
