Emergency Alert System: HHR meets Twista written by Badnews and Charrise Bridges

TwistaThis is not a warning. A true MC veteran is set to release a new LP. While everybody is overshadowed with other vets dropping their albums, it’s like Twista latest effort Category F5 hasn’t yet hit the radar. But just like an actual category F5, before you know it your town will be turned upside down. And it will be too late to notice or do anything about it.

Badnews: You’ve been in the rap game for over 20 years, what keeps you from getting burnt out?
Twista: I get tired but I can’t get burnt out because I like music. I love doing what I do. I stay around because I can adapt to the industry.

Bad News: Given the new era of hip hop, who do you like to listen to in 2009?
Twista: I think now the thing that intrests me is what’s going to turn into technology & how will we survive. It seems like technology is in it’s last phase of taking over with the ipods and autotunes.

Bad News: You were one of the first artists from chicago to blow up mainstream wise, but after you, there has been countless artist from that area who had success yet everyone is really worried about other regions of the nation and where they are taking hip hop. Do you feel like Chicago is underated or underappreciated?
Twista: Yeah definitely. Let me clairify something. I wasn’t one of the first out of Chicago to get a major deal. I was the first. I was the the first out of Chicago with a major deal. Being OG now, and looking at things you can compare it to a donut…it’s just like looking around Chicago but not in middle. West coast, East coast, Down south have access to the industry. There are no major offices or labels in Midwest anywhere. There is nothing here. That’s why Da Brat left.

Badnews: I see that your promoting a phone number very heavy on the internet, what is the number about?
Twista: Fans can call that number saynow.com. I’m like Mike Jones (laughs), I’m giving my fans a hands on experience while I’m working on the album.

Badnews: Your releasing your latest album Category F5 next month, and your first single is Wetter. How did that record come about?
Twista: Well the title name Category F5 is a twister that just tears shit up. It was one of those records that was sent to me and the beat was so cold. I wrote my verse and we just decided that this was the single. I always try to put something out for the ladies, and this is one of those records everybody can feel and enjoy, but the ladies will love more.

Badnews: You released six studio albums in 20 years. Do you feel that this is a good number to be at as far as being in the game for so long?
Twista: You know I feel it should be quality over quantity. But I think that’s a real good number. You can’t oversaturatrate the public, but you can’t just sit back and but albums out every nine years either. There has to be a balance.

Bad News: Who’s on the new album?
Twista: Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Gucci Mane, Akon, R. Kelly, Lil’ Boosie, and Do or Die. This is a real strong album. This will hit the streets real hard. I am going back to basics.

Badnews: Well, I know you are a true Madden guy, so what do you think about EA putting two football players on the album instead of one?
Twista: I think It’s something different. It might work. I’m more worried about the game play and what is going to happen with Madden.

Badnews: Your right (laughs). Now what about NFL for real? The Bears picked up Jay Cutler. How do you think it’s going down this year?
Twista: Man, We are finna to do it! That’s all we really needed. A Quarterback, we going to tear the playoffs up.

Badnews: That’s what’s up. Well I would be lying if I said good luck to the Bears so I won’t say it (laughs).
Twista: Hey man… watch out for the Bears watch (laughs)

Badnews: Okay (laughs) Well your latest album Category F5 will be out soon so, we will be on the lookout for that and of course we will hear from you on myspace and twitter. Twista thank you for talking with HHR
Twista: My pleasure. Thank you.
