Chopper Young City isn’t flying off the handle just yet, but he is demanding respect. Even when you don’t directly give it to him, just like his former mentor Diddy, he will know just how to spin bad things into good things. And when he drops his new mixtape, Choppa Suit Season, you will know what exactly what he is trying to tell you.
Badnews: How busy has it been for you in the past couple of months?
YC: Its been real good the past couple of months. All publicity is good publicity. But whether good or bad, Me and My team got things together. We’re really focused and out there grinding. We’re taking this year very serious.
Badnews: What are some of the things you learned all on your own during the past couple of months?
YC: I don’t use up front money like it grows on trees anymore. I wasn’t use to getting that kind of money and I was buying cars and all sorts of stuff. But through the years. I learned how to manage my money because this what I’m grinding for and I can’t loose it before I make it.
Badnews: You are probably the most talked about rapper on the Internet right now. How do you feel when you see the people leave not so positive comments? Does it make you go directly to the booth and make make music? Do you treat the comments like fuel?
YC: I just keep doing my thing. It’s good when people talk about you, that’s promotion. I don’t care what happens with that. When I drop the Choppa Suit Season mixtape then, they will be really talking. I’m on my grind.
Badnews: What do you think about Lil’ JJ and Joe Budden poking fun at the whole choppa suit thing?
YC: I think Joe won’t get over the hill. Lil’ JJ is funny so he can do what he wants. Everybody else is just keeping my name in their mouth. That’s good publicity, when the internet talks.
Badnews: Exactly, why were you wearing the suit that day? Were you coming from a meeting?
YC: I mean, the suit was just there in my closet and I just threw it on. I wore it in Oakland while making a movie. The suit is still expensive as hell. Either way, it just put my name out there and now everyone is going to feel what I’m about to do this year. I’m satisfied though.
Badnews: The original point of you making a video was to get at your former co-star Ness. Has the beef intensified with you and Ness?
YC: When I see him, I’ll see him. Ness just needs to be prepared. I’m prepared everywhere. I did all that shit Ness is talking about in his stupid ass songs. I’m not a sugar talk rapper like his bitch ass…
Badnews: How did all this even start?
YC: The shit started when someone interviewed me and asked me have I spoke to Ness since the show and I said, “We’re cool, but I don’t rock with Ness like that.” What I meant was, I don’t see him or speak to him like that. Then Ness, this fat, turtle neck mutha fucker starting saying this bullshit like he’s going to fuck me up when he sees me. Ness is not a gangster, he’s not going to do shit to me. He’s just a rapper and nothing more. When I see him, I’m going to slap him and scold his fat ass and make him sit in a corner somewhere.
Badnews: Damn! Well, I hope it doesn’t get too crazy, but you all are men, so you know how to handle it.
YC: Of course. Ness is a good rapper, but he never did what he writes and raps about. He just says what’s hot and that is that. But fuck him him…fuck Ness.
Badnews: Ok. Well, what’s been going on with you now? I hear you got something in the works with a major deal.
YC: Yeah, right now (label name withheld) is trying to holla at me, so we will see what goes down in a little while. I have experience now. I had to burn my hand on the stove to learn that mother fuckers hot, but I understand now and Diddy taught me how to be independent.
Badnews: Well, talk about the new mixtape Choppa Suit Season. Can you consider this your “Blueprint”?
YC: Shout out to all the DJ’s I worked with like the Shadyville DJ’s…I was doing mixtapes with DJ Woogie, Imfamous, M.O.E., but this one right here is the best I have done yet, because it feels like my back is against the wall and it’s me against the world. It’s like if I’m trapped in a little four cornered room and I have to fight my way out. I’m fucking biting ears off and smashing skulls. I’m at my best when I have to prove myself to these cock suckers. I’m going to get this money or die trying. I’ve been networking out in the streets, I’m not at home biting nails saying to myself, “what am I going to do“?
Badnews: (laughs) Who is working with you on the album?
YC: I got Shawnna on there, she always been a friend of mine. I have Gucci (Mane) and he always was my boy. But I appreciate everyone, right now we have a few of the tracks posted on my myspace…http://www.myspace.com/CHOPPERYOUNGCITY
Badnews: What’s a track you want the public to keep an ear out for?
YC: “Fresh Off The Lot” featuring Shawnna… WHOOO! That shit is hot (laughs)
Badnews: (laughs)…What else do you have lined up for 2009?
YC: More mixtapes and videos. Everyone will start hearing me again. I ain’t no tight jeans rapper, this is M.O.E. Entertainment, we either get money, fuck with the hoes, or work in studio. Everyday, we’re hustling. I’m out here though. I’ve been doing this since I was 16. I did it all. I went to jail, I’ve been shot at, everything. I took greyhounds back and forth from New Orleans to New York City. I been out there. So I feel, its coming together and you will see this year.
