Once implicated for the murder of his friend, rap legend Jam Master Jay, Curtis Scoon is currently pitching around a screenplay about the infamous 1988 Queens slaying of 22-year-old rookie police officer Edward Byrne.
Byrne’s murder sparked a national backlash against violence and the crack epidemic, which had ravaged America’s inner-cities. The killers were apprehended shortly after and eventually convicted. Notorious South Jamaica, Queens drug czars Howard ‘Pappy’ Mason, who ordered the hit from jail, and Lorenzo ‘Fat Cat’ Nichols were convicted in connection with the murder.
Scoon, who was never arrested in Jay’s killing, has served as a consultant and co-producer for the BET series “American Gangster.” He has helped produce episodes on Fat Cat, Kenneth ‘Supreme’ McGriff and is the lead producer for an episode on the Jamaican “Shower Posse” gang this season.
