The legendary duo, Sway & King Tech, hosts of the long-running Hip Hop radio program the “Wake Up Show“, launched the ‘100K Battle’ in conjunction with UrSession.com in April and now are announcing the deadline of the first competition, the winning prize packages and two new competition genres.
urSession.com is the first fan-driven marketplace for the discovery of independent music and doubles as a digital record label designed to create an open market for unsigned musicians. urSession was founded by Sway, King Tech, System of A Down bassist Shavo Odajian and Internet entrepreneur Narb Avedissian. “This is a natural move for us, we have the tools and opportunities to help aspiring artists get their big breaks. We have been doing it for years discovering artists like Eminem and Xzibit and feel this is what the music industry needs” commented King Tech.
“The music business has been changed forever by the internet and downloading,” says co founder Narb Avedissian, “the big labels are looking for independent artists to build their own buzz and fan following before they are signed. We are providing not only the platform for this but the opportunity for artists to begin with top music from established industry producers and then offering a few lucky winners the promotion and development machine of Sway and Tech.”
The deadline for the current 100k Battle will be December 4th, 2008, where the winner will be announced and receive the trip to Hollywood, the $5000, appear on The Wake Up Show and begin a development deal on the urSession.com label.
The “100K Battle ,” hosts beats, valued at more than $100,000, which were provided to the site by more than 20 established Hip-Hop producers, including The Alchemist, 9th Wonder, DJ Khalil, and the late J Dilla. After selecting a beat to rap or sing over, contestants can upload their work to urSession.com. Fans will then vote on their favorite tracks. Contestants are required to create a free urSession.com account, they then have the opportunity to download a beat. Contestants then showcase their skills to the downloaded track and submit their creation online. All entries will be available on the Wake Up Show’s website, with fans voting for their favorites. The contestants also have the ability to go Gold, Platinum and Diamond by the number of votes they receive.
Next up for the site will be to offer a 100k Battle for Electronica/pop and country. Sway explains, “Music is a universal language and the same theory that if you provide quality tracks no matter what the genre, your true talent will stick out is the basis for launching the other genres. It is an exciting time for the independent artist and we are excited to cross boundaries to help people reach their dreams.” urSession.com hopes to launch the new genres by January 15th with a three month “battle time” until the winners are announced.
The urSession.com site is also growing and expanding with original interviews and content with top artists, producers and industry executives all aimed at providing insight for aspiring artists. The Wake up Show has over 11.5 million listeners and has archived hundreds of exclusive interviews and videos with music legends old and new which will be posted on the site to once again inspire new artists.
