“I Know Y’all Ain’t Sleep:” The Chronicles – Tyga

Posted on Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Aie Yi Yi Hey!, Aie Yi Yi! Okay, let me turn the song off and let you guys know what the deal is. Today’s artist of choice, Tyga first hit the scene as most new artists do; in a couple of music video cameos and random web videos on myspace and youtube giving a peep of the fabulous life. The majority include web videos in which fans have no idea how that life was achieved. Obviously through advanced checks and sometimes icy gifts from already established stars that help them rise to fame. Tyga just so happened to get a boost from Lil Wayne, which at this time is a good look. He’s also related to lead singer of the Gym Class Heroes Travis McCoy. Tyga is signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money ENT and Decaydance Records owned by Fall Out Boy group member Pete Wentz. Judging by his main connections, he’s not your ordinary newcomer and his sound is anything but familiar

At 19 years old, Tyga released his debut album titled No Introduction. He was born in Gardena, CA, raised in Compton, but doesn’t make gang life or hard times the focus of his music. His individual music camp called G.E.D. INC stands for many things, one being gett’n every dolla His album No Introduction brings on a new approach to the hip-hop game that’s addictive. His song “Supersize Me” is about Tyga helping himself rise to fame by making himself seem bigger than he actually was. If people don’t recognize you, then you have to give them a reason to in the future. Tyga is an interesting artist that lives up to his name. On both of his mixtapes both titled No Introduction: the series, the first released on April 10th and the second on May10th are very much hip-hop. Though on his official album No Introduction released June 10,th his style is hipster/ghetto tech. But it’s all good because his lyrical style, delivery and swagger are all the same.

The Snooze Blocker

These lyrics are from his song titled “2am”, a track from his official album. The song talks about how he wasn’t raised right when he was younger, so in order to survive he had to do something better and that was music.

Damn my step dad beatin’ me again
For a bad grade, he must of had aids
The way he was hurting me in a bad way
My mom hearin’ the scream but just turned away
What the f***
Are you people crazy
I was only a baby, five months when they gave me
To my grandma, who was racist
But I ain’t give a f***, I just faced it.

The Alarm Clock

This song was named the 2008 summer anthem by many. It’s also the first single off of his album No Introducion. Guest appearances in the video include Lil Wayne and Pete Wentz while Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes spits a few bars at the end.

Coconut Juice

This second video was made to promote his second mixtape. The title speaks for itself.
