I‘d like to say one thing. The term old school seems to be getting used the wrong way these days. Old school is what I would call joints back in the 60’s and 70’s, but I hear alot of idiots on the ‘net and on TV networks (MTV, BET, etc.) use the term for joints back in the 80’s and 90’s. Bad use of words. I’d like to refer to joints in this time frame as classic or contemporary. Well, in this particular selection, I want to take you back to the essence. This track I have for your listening pleasure is by Big Daddy Kane and is called “Raw” (see below). It was released back in 1991 and to me is one of the dopest displays of word play I have ever heard. Bar none, this selection has tremendous flow, lyrics, delivery and the whole package. This to me is “Hip Hop“. Plus this song has a distinct message. Note: To all MC’s out, please strive to be original and have fun in what you do. Use this selection as a brick for the foundation. I, as a listener, don’t care about what whips you’re supposedly driving, the breezees you’re knocking down. Also, I don’t care about how many bodies you’ve piled out. It’s all fiction in the end.
